Equipping MSLs for success in the ‘new normal’

Medical Content Team           January 25, 2021

MSLs are a key link between Big Pharma/MedTech and healthcare providers, helping advances in industry inform concrete improvements in clinical practice and better patient outcomes.

They keep physicians up to date with medical evidence, support them in their role as payers, facilitate their conversations with patients, and even help empower patients as individuals and as members of larger advocacy groups. Despite a constantly evolving environment, these objectives remain largely unaltered: what changes are the tools MSLs use to achieve their goals. Cue a constant need for education to keep their skillsets well-honed and competitive.

Technological innovations have allowed MSLs to refine their interactions, an evolutionary process dramatically accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic: consequently, key educational needs of field medical teams also need to be addressed in a different way. Modern MSLs need to be proficient in omnichannel communications, fluent in the digital language, and comfortable with communication platforms that can potentially enhance their virtual conversations with HCPs.

When it comes to consuming new information, demands and preferences of MSLs are not too dissimilar from their audiences. Training materials should be bite-size, yet fully integrated so as not to lose sight of the bigger picture; available in multiple formats and across multiple platforms to engage with different types of learner; and designed with a low cognitive load to optimize user experience.

At Remedica, we understand the requirements of the modern MSL and take pride in producing training materials and implementation tools that respond to their evolving needs. We also appreciate the important investment our clients spend on upskilling their medical field forces, and work to maximize their ROI by offering effective learning experiences that limit the withdrawal of personnel from the field and won’t upset the balance between training and work.

From gamified options, to podcasts, tailored applications, online modular content, and even time-limited virtual sessions that feel like attending a face-to-face event, we cater to all needs and preferences, and we leave no stone unturned to ensure that potentially practice-changing information is carefully transferred and successfully filtered down to practitioners and their patients.
